Fresh Gluten Free Pasta

Making fresh gluten free pasta from scratch is an ambitious endeavor but some people try to, usually with much grief and effort. Now there's an option that just requires 3-4 minutes of boiling. RP's Pasta Company is based out of Wisconsin and offers both a glutinous and gluten-free product line. They have four gluten free options, including the spinach fettuccine I picked up to try.  It boiled up appropriately, and drained it when it was al dente, as the package implies. I mixed them with some Alfredo sauce and took a bit. The pasta tasted good, fresh, but I found the noodles a little thick. I'm not sure I would buy these again because I am personally happy with my other pasta options. I guess I'm just not a huge pasta and bread lover- I could live without them, but for someone who misses them this is a product worth trying for yourself.

Mac & Cheese to Go

Do I like convenience? Yes
Do I like Mac & Chesse? Yes
Was I excited about instant gluten free mac & cheese? YES
Is this product from Pastariso any good? Debatable.

The new instant gluten free mac and cheese from Pastariso is a great idea, but in practicability I'm not sure it's worth it. It runs about $2.50 a container, and after you heat it up and let the pasta absorb the water you add, you end up with less than half filled container. It's just filler, empty calories; it's not a full meal. For kids and busy parents I can see it as a plausible item in the cupboard, but then I feel kids should be eating something more healthy after school. As a adult I could get more bang for my buck and spend maybe 1 or 2 dollars more and make an entire bag of pasta into mac and cheese and have multiple servings left in the fridge for later.  Overall, I give this product a "muh."

Schar Pasta

I've been branching out within the world of gluten free pasta. Most stores don't have a very large selection, but I happen to have the benefit of a gluten free store really close to home, that has a nice spread of pasta brands, shapes, and sizes. Schar pasta is primarily made from corn and rice, so not my first choice, because I like to limit my corn intake, but I gave it a try, and it resembles regular pasta fairly well. It did not fall apart from too much stirring, it did not turn to mush after reheating leftovers, and my husband approved. I would probably buy this one again; I think it might be a good fit for pasta salad.
