Dates

I have found the combination of dates and almond flour to be a great kitchen duo. The stickiness of the dates glues and moistens the almond flour to make an incredibly easy and tasty raw crust. I had bought some fresh dates in my local grocery store; you should be able to find them near the mangos and pineapple. If you buy them fresh they taste a little bit more rich than the prepackaged ones but then you'll need to remove their pits, but they are very sticky and it will be up to you as to if you buy the super fresh if you can find them, or the semi-processed ones, with no pits. If you haven't ever had a date, like me (until now), I find them tasty. They are a great source of fiber and protein and great for boosting your energy; plus they are great for your digest track.

I made some raw key lime pies using this date crust and I want to make many other fun combinations using this date crust. This is certainly going to be one of my go-to no-bake desserts for the summer. I like some sort of frozen banana cream pie is in order.

Horseradish

Have you ever bought the pure root in the produce section? This stuff is seriously strong and seriously potent. Did you even know what it looked like? In the picture is both horseradish (the straighter chunk) and ginger root (the one that looks more like a bunch of little nubbins). The root itself does not smell like horseradish, in fact I questioned I was buying the correct thing, but once you start grating it, man oh man, this will clear up your sinuses fast. I was adding some to soup for some kick and my husband decided to blend a chunk with a little bit of water. Now he loves to smell food so he whipped off the blender lid and took a big whiff. He pretty much burned his nostrils and had to run to the window and get some fresh air; he had tears just rolling down his face. My point to all of this is that the root itself is very strong and I'd much rather buy the root in the future then preprocessed horseradish in a jar. You get so much more for your money.

Snicker Salad

Snicker salad sounds strange, but it's a sweet dessert salad like a jello salad with marshmallows. I was introduced to this by a neighbor about a year ago and I'm sad that I had never had this before. I had been missing out on something awesome!

There are tons of variations for snicker salad, but there are pretty much only four main ingredients that you need and from there you can adjust the quainties of each.

Granny Smith Apples * Snickers *Vanilla Pudding * Cool Whip

You'll need to dirty two bowls. In the one bowl you can put your solids. I chopped up four apples and 1 bag of mini snickers bars.

In the second bowl combine pudding and one 8 oz container cool whip.  For the pudding you only want to use 1 cup of milk instead of the full two like the box of pudding calls for. Then pour in your apples and candy and stir. That's it! Just pop it in the fridge until you're ready to serve it.

Everyone who ate it loved it.  It might just surprise you too!
