Spoonful of Coconut Goodness

In the world of paleo dessert recipes they often start out by "creaming" coconut oil and honey, as you would creme together butter and sugar. Well really, if you're in a pitch or just need something simple to quench your sweet tooth you can stop right there. Mix a spoonful of coconut oil with a tbsp of maple syrup or honey, your choice, and insert spoon into mouth. That's it. Now you might be thinking its going to have a super strong coconut flavor-no- and why would I eat a spoonful of coconut oil? Well, let me tell you.

Coconut oil ingestion has shown to increase your good cholesterol, it can help with maintaining blood sugar, and it can even help with weight loss, so grab a spoon and through some in your smoothie.

And if you don't want to take my word for it, you can always see what Dr. Oz has to say about it.

OCHO Candy Bars

OCHO: an organic candy bar. Ok, so this is a candy bar and regardless of organic or not organic, sugar-free, or not, it's still a candy bar. So the ultimate question is is this bar worth the 200 calories or would I rather eat a snickers? Well let's compare, shall we.

OCHO Caramel & Peanut has nougat, caramel, and peanuts covered in milk chocolate. Sounds like a snickers to me, and the ingredient and nutritional make up is similar, minus the word organic, so then we must evaluate taste. The OCHO bar has whole peanuts instead of crumbled peanuts on top of the caramel, so it seemed like I was getting the full flavor combo, peanut included, only every other bite. The nougat and caramel were good, but I wasn't blown away.

The bar comes in three other flavors: coconut, (compared to almond joy I imagine), peanut butter, and mocha. I would probably buy one again, but usually products need to be multi-allergen friendly for me to be thrilled and overly impressed, and these are just gluten free, and made in a shared facility.

Justin's Nut Butter does Candy

Recently I tried both Justin's Peanut Butter Cups and Candy Bar.  I love Justin's single serve nut butter packets, and I was happy to see they've taken their great nut butters and made candy! The peanut butter cups are firm, not really sweet and not really salty. I also didn't think they were really creamy either, and yet I liked them. I guess if you like some sort of nut butter other than your main stream "Skippy" you would most likely like these. The candy bar I tried was also good, but did not truly impress me. Either way, you should give one of these a go next time you see them at your local store and decide for yourself if you like them.
